How will you be helping?

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. 75% of every dollar spent by the Society goes towards research, patient aid, advocacy, and public education programs. Did you know that every 5 minutes someone learns they have a blood cancer and every 10 minutes someone dies from a blood cancer?

Team in Training provides endurance training for participants who wish to compete in marathons, century bike rides or triathlons. In return, the endurance athletes raise money and awareness for cancer research and valuable patients services such as outreach, support groups and patient co-pays.

Allison, the youngest of five children, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocitic Leukemia. She has been through two bouts of ALL over a six year period, but today at 13 years old she has been cancer free for over seven years! Allison and her family received assistance and support services from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Your donation to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society funds cancer research that has produced several miracle drugs that help patients stay in remission. Donations also support family support services such as co-pay assistance, support groups and education.

We thank you for all you do for those who battle this life altering disease!

This is why I run - because I know that I am not accomplishing a personal feat of an endurance event, but I am helping to raise awareness and support for people like Allison. With our help and donations, we can continue the research towards ground breaking discoveries that continue to allow children and adults who suffer with cancer the opportunity to achieve remission from their cancer - and stay there!

I will be running AGAIN in the San Francisco Nike Women's Marathon
on Sunday, October 19th

Finishers!

On Sunday June 1st, 100% of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of Team in Training competed in and completed their chosen endurance event.

It was an early start to our morning, but I don't think any of us slept much anyway!

We decorated our jersey's with "Team Brandan" and a photo of our Patient Hero, Brandan Hickey. He was our motivation along the long 26.2 miles

Three members of Erin Dietrich's mentor group participated in the Rock N Roll Marathon.
Carl Miller, Brenda Linster, Erin Dietrich and Kate Sabo

The Final Preparation

In the midst of a new team beginning their marathon training journey, the Summer Season team was enjoying the fabulous short runs of Taper Week. And putting in their final miles in preparation for the marathon - NEXT WEEKEND!

We survived three and a half months of grueling training, track workouts, long miles, early morning runs and unusually chilly and windy training runs!

Thanks for the dedication to take on this challenge with us - and for providing us with a great support network, good memories and hilarious training stories.

We leave this short journey knowing that we did not just make amazing friendships and improve our own personal fitness level - but we impacted the lives of others as advocates for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Thanks for the memories, Team in Training Family!
I hope to see you out on the running trail again in the future

Second Run

Check out our beautiful runners! Only one group run, and already we are like family.

And tough! Ready for the challenges ahead!

And great participation! Mentor Kate had her WHOLE team in attendance! Congrats all!

Going for the action shot! Run, Stacey and Chelsea, Run!

Fall Season 2008-WELCOME!

A big warm welcome to our new Fall Season Training Team!

We have a great new group of Team in Training participants - and we are looking forward to a fabulous Fall Season.

Participants will be running and walking in the Denver Marathon and San Francisco Nike Women's Marathon on October 19th.

Thanks for your support!

Thanks to everyone who joined us for the Poker Pub Crawl on Saturday! It was a great event and I hope you all made some new friends and made a personal connection to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society with your support of our endurance athletes and our Team Hero Brandan Hickey.

With your help we raised over $2,000 which will go directly to funding research to find a cure for blood cancers and for patient services like support groups and patient medication co-pays. For more information about the Society, please check out www.lls.org.

We are recruiting for the Fall Season of Team in Training - so if you have ever wanted to compete in an endurance event (1/2 marathon, full marathon, triathlon or century ride) there is still time to sign up. In fact, we are hosting several Information Sessions in the Denver/Boulder area. Join us to learn more about how you can compete in an endurance event and join the fight to save lives! http://www.teamintraining.org:80/rm/firsttimehere/eventsmeetings/

Brandan Hickey is our Patient Hero and was diagnosed at the age of 11 months with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. He went onto life support and had multiple respiratory arrests and blood clots, suffered life threatening infections, hemorrhaged in his lungs, and spent 32 days in the pediatric ward supported by an oscillator machine to breathe. Brandan received chemotherapy treatment and more than 100 transfusions. Despite his extremely poor diagnosis and outlook, he continues to improve. Brandan is no longer on oxygen and has reached his normal developmental milestones and weight. On top of all that, he has gone through everything with a smile. What an amazing kid!! He just finished with a long hospital stay while undergoing intense treatment, but he's doing great now!

This is why I run - because I know that I am not accomplishing a personal feat of an endurance event, but I am helping to raise awareness and support for people like Brandan. Platte River 1/2 Marathon

Many members of the team took advantage of the opportunity to run in the Platte River 1/2 Marathon on Sunday, April 7th. The race benefitted the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. There was a great turn out of about 1,100 runners, many of whom had a connection to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or to Team In Training!

It was a great day for a run!

And I think every one had a great race!

Speed Workouts and Burgers and Beer

After a great speed workout at the track, the Ladies of Team in Training hit the local bar for burgers and beer at Handlebar Grille in Wash Park! What a great group of women - oh, and Kevin Fonger! Thanks for a great workout and great company, ladies!

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Lucky Leprechaun Pub Crawl benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! You helped make the event a huge success. We had over 90 people in attendance and raised over $2,250 for cancer research!
